Physically, Bible carriers' work is more involved than I thought. Bags stuffed with 190 Bibles, for example, weigh about 150 pounds. Pulling them up and down ramps is engaging enough but lifting them onto trains, buses and scanners require God-enabled strength, especially when having to haul them back to base after getting caught. I've seen carriers leave with loads that weigh as much or even more than themselves, just trusting the Lord to give them the extra strength when needed. And Bible carriers aren't just young guys; women and 70+ year olds also pitch in as Bible carriers.

Spiritually, Satan's resistance to Bible carriers is more methodical than I expected. Yesterday, while waiting to recover my confiscated Bibles I got to watch the customs guards in action. Two guards stood facing the travelers in their path and told everyone carrying more than a briefcase or a small backpack to put their stuff in the scanner, which scans each item in different ways. Bibles - probably the paper or the ink - appeared as a solid black mass, and I've seen anywhere from one to five guards glued to the scanner screen.

I've been caught by the guards on the last three Bible runs, although the Bibles hidden in the luggage linings and side pockets weren't discovered. Yesterday morning, for example, 31 Bibles made it through. I was grateful for those 31 Bibles and praised God for them, but have to admit that I grumbled to Him about the ~100 Bibles that didn't get through.

After returning to base and praying with two career Bible carriers, I had the choice of not going back for the night; going back with a small, special kind of bag that I thought would get through; or going back with a big bag - bigger than the original - and in effect asking God for an unequivocal miracle.

I shared my thoughts with the two career Bible carriers. A short discussion ensued, after which the career Bible carriers and I concurred on the third option. So after more prayer, off I went with the big bag while the two career Bible carriers provided prayer cover.  >>>
